Honoring Yogita: A Vision Beyond Sight

Dec 19, 2024

A message to suffering seekers ...

Today marks a significant yet profoundly bittersweet milestone—the 27th anniversary of my daughter Yogita’s passing. Born blind and unable to express herself due to cognitive impairment, she graced our lives with an extraordinary presence. She had an acute sense of hearing, a beauty that defied words, and a quiet spirit that seemed to understand truths the rest of us could only grasp.

Yogita was the most beautiful girl I have ever seen—a profound reminder of the grace and mystery of life. Her perfection was magnified, not diminished, by the tiny imperfections that shaped her story. She carried a light within her that shone brighter than the physical senses could ever perceive.

Her diagnosis with stage-four cancer came like a fierce storm—ruthless, overpowering, and unexpected. In just eight weeks, the illness ravaged her small body. I watched helplessly as she slipped away from me, like fine sand through my fingers. Those weeks were a cruel and incomprehensible journey. Yet even in the depths of her suffering, Yogita exuded an extraordinary strength. Her silence became her shield, and her stillness radiated courage.

How does one honor a day like this? Should it be a time of celebration or mourning? Relief or grief? These questions echo the vast and complex spectrum of love and loss. To celebrate her life is to celebrate the lessons she gave me. To mourn is to acknowledge the void her absence left in my heart. To feel relief is to be human, knowing her suffering ended, while the sadness of her absence remains as heavy as ever.

Yogita’s legacy is more than a memory—it is transformation. In her silence, she taught me to listen beyond words. In her blindness, she revealed truths deeper than sight. She made me realize that the heart's vision is infinitely brighter than the eyes can ever perceive. Yogita gave me the gift of seeing without sight, a vision that transcends the physical and reaches the very soul of others.

This profound gift became the foundation of Amopia™, the philosophy she inspired. Amopia is my attempt to honor her life by sharing with the world the sacred truth she taught me: suffering, though painful, is not our enemy. It is our teacher. It strips away illusions, reveals our truest selves, and leads us to the deepest parts of our humanity.

Amopia’s mission is simple but transformative: to change how we see suffering—from something to be feared, numbed, or avoided, to something sacred. It’s about embracing our pain as a mirror that reflects our inner truth. Through courses, community, and practices that blend science, spirituality, and wellness, Amopia offers a path to healing, resilience, and spiritual awakening.

For 27 years, I’ve carried the grief of losing Yogita, but also the light she left behind. Her lessons are the heartbeat of Amopia. They are why I choose to honor this day by launching this movement in her name. It’s a tribute to her life, her strength, and the profound impact she continues to have on me and, I hope, the world.

To those who are navigating their own storms, I invite you to join me on this journey. Together, we can transform our pain into power, our grief into growth, and our suffering into sacred wisdom. Let’s create a world where the challenges of life are not just endured but embraced as the catalysts for our most profound transformation.

Yogita, this is for you. Your light continues to guide me, and through Amopia, I hope it will guide others too.

With love and gratitude,
